Central Valley residents weigh in at high risk for most chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Poor nutrition and physical inactivity are major contributors to these chronic diseases and together are the second most preventable cause of death among US adults, just behind smoking. Regular consumption of fruits and vegetables and daily moderate physical activity are a part of the national health guidelines to promote health and reduce risk for chronic diseases.
