What is Welfare-To-Work?

The Welfare To Work program provides employment-related services to CalWORKs clients to assist them in finding and retaining employment, obtaining training when necessary, and in upgrading to higher paying jobs that will lead to financial self-reliance.

Who Must Participate in Welfare-To-Work?

  • All adult CalWORKs recipients, unless determined exempt
  • Exempt individuals may volunteer to receive Welfare To Work services, and must abide by all program requirements upon entering the program

Who will assist me with my Welfare-to-Work activities?

You will be assigned a Job Specialist who will be your personal guide to the benefits and services of CalWORKs and Welfare-To-Work. Your Job Specialist can help you with the following:

  • Identify job openings and apply for jobs
  • Get your resume updated and practice interview skills
  • Enroll in a training or education program
  • Obtain proper clothing and haircut for a job interview
  • Refer you for supportive services, such as child care, transportation and counseling

Is there a drop-in facility I can use to search for jobs?

The Employment Resource Center located at 4452 E. Kings Canyon Road, Modular D in Fresno is open to CalWORKs clients to drop-in for job seeking services such as resume updating, online job searches, interview tips and use of phones, copiers and fax machines. Are there other employment resources I can contact or be referred to?

  • Employment Development Department (EDD) - You can access current job openings and enter your resume into the CalJobs system. They have several offices throughout Fresno County, please call (559) 445-5249 for more information.
