Central Valley residents weigh in at high risk for most chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity.  Poor nutrition and physical inactivity are major contributors to these chronic diseases and together are the second most preventable cause of death among US adults, just behind smoking.   Regular consumption of fruits and vegetables and daily moderate physical activity are a part of the national health guidelines to promote health and reduce risk for chronic diseases.

Fresno County is home to 1.88 million acres of the world’s most productive farmland.  Six thousand farmers grow more than 250 different crops, including fruits and vegetables, that are sold world-wide, contribute more than $3.5 billion a year to the California economy and support 30 percent of all jobs in the Fresno area.

Get Fit Fresno County! celebrates the contribution the County makes to a healthy food supply and provides health information to County residents on smart fruit and vegetable choices and physical activity opportunities.
