How do I begin the process for becoming a foster parent or day care provider?
Once you have decided that you want to provide care for a foster child or independent program, there is a process you must follow. The first step in obtaining a license is attending a two-part (usually on two separate days) orientation to learn more information about how to get started and what providing these services entails. My child or relative was removed from their home, what should I do?
The first thing that you should do is to remain calm. If you know that your child or relative was removed from their home, you can call the Careline at (559) 255-8320. By calling the hotline, you can give your name as an interested relative, and it will be given to the social worker if the child was removed. If you are a parent, you can call (559) 453-6400 to contact the social worker. The social worker will contact you regarding the case.

What can I do?
You can contact the Careline at (559) 255-8320 for information. The Careline can help with beginning an investigation of the matter or can refer you to some community resources for help. We are a community partner and are here to help. Please do not hesitate to call if you are aware of abuse or neglect.

I have a complaint, whom do I contact?
If you have a complaint regarding the social worker, you can make a complaint with the social worker's supervisor. If there is a complaint on the foster home, you can contact Licensing at (559) 262-4402.
Experience has proven that the most effective way to address Mental Health service delivery problems is to address your concerns in an organized manner that would begin with your Mental Health clinician, if still not resolved, the issue can then be addressed with your Mental Health clinician's supervisor. If you are receiving services from a provider contracted with the Fresno Co Mental Health Plan, those issues can be addressed by calling the Fresno Co. Mental Health Plan at 1-800-654-3937.

How am I expected to pay for my Court ordered mental health services?
Fresno Co. accepts Medi-Cal clients, this will cover nearly all of the Dependency Court ordered children. Adults without Medi-Cal are subject to either full payment "out of pocket" or are eligible for a sliding scale program. Sliding scale payment is determined by the client's income and expenses. Financial responsibility is determined through an interview with an Admitting Interviewer prior to services being delivered.

I think my child is experiencing a crisis and cannot wait for an appt. time, where can I go for immediate services?
Depending upon the urgency of the crisis situation there are a few options. One can call 911, which brings a response from law enforcement and/or emergency medical personnel, or call the CCAIR line at (559) 453-3860.

If I reside in Fresno County but outside of the city of Fresno, do I have to travel to Fresno to get my mental health services?
Fresno Co. has several rural sites located throughout Fresno County. You can find out the nearest site to your residence by calling (559) 453-8918.
