Mission Statement

"The United Consumer Advocacy Network (UCAN) offers opportunities to engage in structured activities that are all-inclusive regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class or disability to promote the development of a mental health community and community well-being through collective and united efforts that contribute toward support and/or solutions to common problems and that advance themselves, the community and ultimately society as a whole."

Program Description

UCAN consist of mental health consumers who choose to be involved in their own wellness and recovery and wish to share their recovery experience with other consumers, family members, and friends. Family members, friends and significant others are encouraged to participate in all aspects of UCAN's activities. Consumer/Provider staff work in collaboration with Consumer Volunteer Advocates and provide mentoring, support, and training for the UCAN consumer activities.

Services provided by UCAN enhance wellness and recovery principles and include:

  • Empowerment
  • Mental Health Consumer Advocacy
  • 12 weeks of Consumer Volunteer Advocate Training (English/Spanish)
  • Recovery Education Classes
  • Senior Peer Support Groups
  • Mentoring
  • Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
  • Special Social Events
  • Peer Support Groups (English/Spanish)
