Room and board homes, also known as boarding houses, do not provide 24-hour care and supervision. They are designed to provide a semi-independent living environment and generally supply a room, bed and two prepared meals a day. These facilities are not licensed by the state, but are inspected annually by environmental health for safety, sanitation and imminent hazards. They are also monitored by the Community Living Division Room and Board Coordinator to assure the facilities meet the standards of the Department of Adult Services (DAS).
