Primarily a resource for residents of Fresno County, the County of Fresno Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF) may also treat consumers requiring acute psychiatric treatment on an emergency psychiatric basis. Regardless of age, any resident of Fresno County requiring acute voluntary or involuntary psychiatric inpatient care may, upon written application and evaluation by a professional mental health staff member, be admitted to the Psychiatric Health Facility.

All admissions to PHF must meet the standards of acute medical necessity. Individuals who may be admitted are those with a suspected or established mental disorder diagnosis or may pose a danger to themselves and/or others, have impaired judgment or are exhibiting uncooperative behavior to the extent that they cannot reasonably be assured a lower level of care or cannot provide the basic necessities of living such as food, clothing or shelter.

Minor consumers under age 18 will only be admitted to PHF in special circumstances and only after alternative residential placement have been explored. If admitted, the minor consumer will be assigned a 24-hour separate living bedroom and activity area, receive one-on-one supervision and interaction with treatment staff, and receive an age-appropriate treatment program.
