The New Support Treatment Advocacy Rehabilitation Team (New START) provides mental health treatment, individual and group therapy, medication and mental illness education, therapy groups focusing on social, leisure and daily living skills, and discharge planning to the Fresno County Jail adult inmate population. Treatment includes intervention to assist the inmate in adjusting to the jail environment and strengthen their independent coping skills. All therapy groups use a dual diagnosis format and special therapy groups are held to meet the needs of inmates with children. Pre-release discharge services provide assistance to inmates and their families in developing a plan to meet housing, financial, mental health and substance abuse after-care needs.
