intake assessment by a mental health professional observation stabilization and prevention of psychiatric deterioration in the jail setting crisis intervention and management of acute psychiatric episodes medication support training, in-service and educational activities as required for jail personnel a therapeutic atmosphere for optimal inmate care. referral and admission to licensed acute mental health facilities for inmates who psychiatric needs exceed the treatment capability of the facility. participation with the Sheriff's Department and infirmary staff in a suicide prevention plan court-ordered evaluation
