The Mission of the Committee is to: - Assess and monitor the mental health needs of ethnic populations in Fresno County, making recommendations to increase the Mental Health Plan's effectiveness in reaching these populations.
- Review current efforts and strategies being used to address the mental health needs of Medi-Cal beneficiaries in Fresno County. Collect the information needed to evaluate these strategies, including, as necessary, input from consumer groups, consumers, and family members.
- Assess and monitor the staff involved in the provision of mental health services to ethnic minorities, making recommendations about staff training and the recruitment and retention of staff, and
- Review and make recommendations regarding policies and procedures.

The two central tasks assigned to the committee are: |
1. Cultural Competence Assessment. The committee completed the cultural competence assessment of mental health services. The primary inputs are: demographic analysis, consumer focus groups, staff focus groups, staff survey. |
2. Cultural Competence Plan. The committee developed the state-mandated cultural competence plan, which includes both a demographic analysis of the population served by the Fresno County Mental Health Plan and review of the resources available to meet the needs of the consumers. The plan identifies goals to assist the Mental Health Plan in working with consumers of different cultures. |
