Supportive Services Coalition for Independent Living (SSCIL) is a state funded grant to provide housing for the low income, mentally ill adults and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The program serves 75 scattered site housing consumers or families.

The program is consumer directed and follows the recovery philosophy service model. These services are designed to help consumers retain housing, improve his or her health status and maximize his or her ability to live and gain employment in the community. Consumers are informed of program services appropriate for his/her individual needs. Participation in the program and the extent to which each consumer participates in housing and supportive services is voluntary. Consumers may leave the program at any time.

Services offer are:

  • Apartment unit and roommate assignment
  • Payee services
  • Tenant council participation
  • Participating in community projects
  • Assessment of the consumer's needs and develop a Personal Service Plan
  • Medication education, medication management and side effects
  • Money management
  • Information on tenant rights and obligations
  • Transportation cost (bus tokens, vouchers will be provide)
  • Personal hygiene classes
  • Subsidized Rent
  • Furnished Apartments
  • Mitigation with Management through Housing Authorities (site control).
  • Choices of Several Housing Arrangements (safe, affordable, close to public transportation)
  • Medication monitoring and counseling
  • Crisis intervention services
  • Substance abuse prevention
  • Vocational, social and recreational activities
  • Daily living needs
  • Tenant Screening
  • Quarterly presentations and seminars on health lifestyles
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Sexual and relationship responsibility

Eligibility:

1. Must be 18 years or older

2. Have a current DSM diagnosis of serious and persistent mental illness as diagnosed by a licensed mental health professional of the Fresno County Department of Adult Services.

3. Must be able to independently take medications as prescribed.

4. Must meet all Housing Authority requirements to qualify for Housing Choice vouchers

5. Should posses sufficient living skills to maintain an apartment independently and provide adequately for daily personal needs.

6. Should not have on-going serious physical violence towards others.

7. Should have ability to use or learn to use public transportation

8. Should posses sufficient financial income to live independently
